Nine more demos:
Birds of Steel (PS3)
-Pretty solid WWII flight combat sim; enjoyable
Under Siege (PS3)
-A medieval RTS that has neither Steven Segal nor topless chicks in cakes. Difficult, but decent.
Rayman 3 HD (PS3)
-Pretty disappointing. Obnoxious voice acting and bad camera angles abound. Rayman 2 is so much better.
Sine Mora (360)
-Very neat side-scrolling shooter with a cool time-based mechanic. Definitely going to buy once it goes on sale. Check this one out.
Blades of Time (360)
-There are some pretty cool gameplay ideas in here, and it would probably be a very good action game if it wasn't so damn sloppy. As it stands, it's just meh.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (360)
-Take a charming 3D platforming world and saddle it with lame, repetitive vehicle minigames, and this is what you get. Poor.
Binary Domain (360)
-Surprisingly decent Gears of War clone.
Crackdown (360)
-Reasonably entertaining open world action and loot collection make this one interesting, if nothing special.
Crackdown 2 (360)
-Very similar to the first but with more clearly defined goals and less of a sense of freedom.

Currently playing Cross Edge and going for the platinum. Finally have a grasp of the battle and combo system this time, just doing a mass synthesis-fest and then i'll be there. This game is the pain in my ass in all honesty, but strangely enjoyable.

Currently playing FFIV for about the billionth time (may be an exaggeration). Got the Compplete Collection from PSN as I have never played the After Years and thought I may as well go through the original again. Enjoying just as much this time around.

Silent Hill HD Collection (Xbox 360)
I'm playing through Silent Hill 2. The only Silent Hill game I ever played was the original when it first came out. It was awesome. So....
I'm not far at all into Silent Hill 2. So far I beat down a guy trapped in a burlap sack in an alley. Got a radio. The radio lets me know there are more homeless armless people trapped in burlap sacks near by. I beat down about sixteen of these guys while running around the streets. I find a key on a dead guy in a dead end alley. It's to some apartment building. I go there. More guys trapped in potatoe sacks trying to kill me....nice. I beat them down, find a flashlight, found ammo for a gun, a riddle on a clock.....I leave. I go to Good Burger, I can't go inside. I find a mobile home, a save point, and a note. The note says go to the bar.....GOOD!! BECAUSE I NEED A BEER RIGHT ABOUT NOW, ESP. AFTER WHAT I JUST HAD TO GO THROUGH!
I saved the game in the trailer. I'll go back to it later.
I don't like this game so far. It's boring me to tears!!!! I'm going to go eat some turkey and take a nap!

Another stream of me playing Marvel vs Capcom 3 in tournament starting at 2:27. Commentators playing up the fact that I look like Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

Agreed. The first one is excellent, but I found SH2 to be really boring after my initial playthroughs (when there were some truly terrifying moments). It's worth seeing through, especially when you get to some of the more elaborate and creepy interior locations, but overall not as solid, or replayable, as the first.
I'm currently playing through FF3 on the SNES again, but this time I am going the backroads way and have been abusing the shit out of Mog's Dances and Gau's Rages. After reading an excellent Rage FAQ on GameFAQs I decided to try learning some of these tactics and going through the game in a way that I never have before. (I always just get Gau and then sideline him for the entire game.) Man, I made some HUGE mistakes before. Gau is a machine with some of the Rages he can learn quite early. I was casting Fire 2/Ice 2/Bolt 2 before I even made it back to Narshe (which is a couple of hours before you even get your first Esper, which is a couple of hours before you have all three of those spells available to be learned), not to mention some of the insane !special attacks he has. I have kept him in my party ever since I picked him up during Sabin's scenario and refuse to not include him. I am terrified of starting the World of Ruin without him in my party.
It's crazy how I've played this game at least a half dozen times, probably more, but there are still other ways to play it without resorting to LLC games to find new challenges and excitement. After rolling off of two successive FF7 playthroughs I have to say that FF3/6 is definitely a more customizable and fast-paced game. I forgot how interchangeable FF7's characters are. Aside from Cloud, the other ones seem different only in minor stats and weapon/Limit Breaks.
Also, Setzer is a useless piece of shit.

I like Setzer as a character but as far as using him in combat... yeah... not so much...

Setzer is best char speedrunning wise, but yeah on regular plays he doesn't provide much. Except to give us the bloody airship.
I wonder how many ways FF VI is actually broken in the end, alongside Gau's rages and Mdef and blind bugs.

Eh, with the Fixed Dice he's really a pretty good character.

Playing 774 Deaths on my iPad... i've died 999 times haha. it's not bad, but nothing spectacular either. Some of the rooms are damn hard, have to remind myself not to throw the iPad across the room. =p

I finished the wonderful Okami (PS2) some days ago. Now _this_ is some storytelling. Really needed some time to cool down and let everything sink in after finishing it.
After some pondering I started with Ar tonelico - Melody of Elemia (PS2) yesterday. It's really stunning to hear the music which you hold dear since many years finally in ingame context.
I also got MGS1 (PS1), MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Snake Eater (both PS2) in the mail. I might play the series in parallel to Ar tonelico.

A few months ago I beat Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater (it was the HD Collection). Just like the Silent Hill series I only played the first of the Metal Gear Solid games back when it first came out.
I forced myself to beat Snake Eater. The whole sneaking around....hell I only did it when I had to (later on). Right from the get go of this game it's pointless to sneak, I ran past or punched the crap out guards that have radios and ran to the next screen. Like with Silent Hill 2, this game is hell boring. The only redeemable thing about this game is that young Ocelot was pretty cool.
There was this one part where I had to climbed a ladder for hell it seemed like 10 minutes straight up. There were a couple times I had to stop and look down and then up to see if I was getting anywhere. It was like I was in purgatory with that horrid Snake Eater theme song playing. *Augh*
And healing in this game.....complete waste of time. Boss fights were boring and pretty much uneventful. Take The Pain, I literally stood in one place and used my AssKrackin-47 on him, he posioned me a few times but his movements were so easy to see....lame. That old sniper dude (I forget his name) but shotgun to face will cure his old age everytime you find where he's hiding. Then there was that retard The Fury....what a joke.
I'm sorry, I know people love this game, but I freakin hated it. But atleast I got some achievments out of it.
I do not recommend playing through this game LiquidAcid unless you are one of the many that have played and do like it.

I couldn't disagree more. SH2 is my favorite game of the Silent Hill series.
For me: SH2 > SH3 > SH1 > SH4
I haven't played the other parts (Homecoming, Zero, etc.)

Indeed.
My ranking would be
SH2 > SH3 > SH1 > Zero > Shattered Memories > SH4 > Homecoming
By Dartannian (Apr 07, 2012) (#967)
Silent Hill, I can't decided if I like the 1st or 2nd game better, but for the most part, the more the series continued on, the less I liked what they did with it.
Henry and James were my favorite protagonists.
More or less, from most favorite to least, SH1, SH2, SH3, SH4; then I lose track of any subsequent releases, when they were supposed to have taken place on the Silent Hill timeline, etc. Honestly couldn't care less about Homecoming, Origins, Shattered Memories, etc.
By Pellasos (Apr 08, 2012) (#968)
still playing KoF XIII.
also FF IV After Years on PSP while watching TV. it's hard to stomach after you've played IV previously. just got Darksiders from PSN because it was dirt cheap, like 7EUR. i'll be playing this for the next few days.
By Jay (Apr 08, 2012) (#969)
Does After Years have a new soundtrack or is it recycled FFIV stuff?
By TerraEpon (Apr 08, 2012) (#970)
Both. Some new tracks, but not too many.
My main problem with it is the encounter rate is absolutely horrid, so I gave up.
By Pellasos (Apr 08, 2012) (#971)
the encounter rate is quite high, but that isn't my main complaint, it's the constant ambushes that hold you up for one round before you can run. you won't die anyway, so it's just an additional timesink that seems unnecessary.
By Wanderer (Apr 08, 2012) (#972)
Still playing Tales of Graces f. It's more fun when you tune the story and characters out (but most JRPGs these days are that way). Certainly no Xenoblade.
By Jay (Apr 09, 2012) (#973)
You guys aren't helping me look forward to getting to the After Years. I'm in the later sections of FFIV now (you know, that bit way up high) and was planning on going straight to Interlude and After Years.
I do like the treatment FFIV got on PSP generally. Really wish V and especially VI would get shown the same love.
By Pellasos (Apr 09, 2012) (#974)
the PSP treatment is fantastic. i think AY story is actually quite nice, maybe the best part about the whole game. IMO AY needed new gameplay elements to keep things fresh.

Thank you! Yeah, I wish they would have redone all the FF's (3 as well even though I don't have a problem with the DS version) on the PSP and completed the set.
