Have you been to the ballet or opera?

I wanted to check and find out if other people out there love ballet and/or opera? I love both! Ballet, because I dated this gorgeous ballerina once smile OK, that's not the only reason, but yeah ballet is definitely sexy eye candy! As for opera, I think there's nothing like it in the world! I took a friend once to see Aida at the MET, and during intermission he called his girlfriend to tell her it was the most amazing thing he's seen in his life. So yeah, check this out and tell me if it doesn't look amazing:

edit: By the way, the video can only give you a tiny idea of how amazing it is to see it live smile

Oh, I bet. tonguetongue

I'm not jealous, by the way (totally am).

I could tolerate it for a (very hot) date, but otherwise...Basically, same stance as country music for me.

Haven't been to the ballet (I've been meaning to) but I've seen a bunch of opera. Can't get enough of it, even though I work with opera singers for a living.

What do you do? What opera singers have you met? Any interesting stories? My experience with them (I've met some "big names") is that some are nice, but in general they tend to be snooty!

I've never seen opera.
But I've always wanted to see Phantom of the opera.  ;p

No, all kidding aside.
I've seen a Nutcracker ballet put on by my college.
And of course, I always watch the Barysnikov PBS Nutracker Ballet every X-mas.

You wanna see amazing?
These GUYS have amazing technique!!!

The Trockadero Ballet Troupe.
You haven't seen ballet till you've seen this.

I like Saint-Saens The Swan a lot.

Right now, I'm establishing my career as a collaborative pianist and I mostly just work with either beginning singers or ones that are ready to start auditioning. As such, no interesting stories, alas. wink

There are certainly divas out there but in my experience (and based on conversations I've had with my boss, a retired singer), most opera singers are generous people who are dedicated to keeping their art alive.

That's a negative on both ballet and opera, although this is one of my favorite movie moments.  It's easy-peasy, but three brownie points for anyone who names it first:

"What did you think of the opera, dear?"

"It was so good, I almost peed my pants."

"She said she liked it better than Pirates of Penzance."

Why, Pretty Woman of course!

As for me, I've been to neither myself. Opera is an iffy subject with me and ballet is a place I dare not tread. However, I do plan on seeing Phantom of the Opera on Broadway one of these days...if that counts.

It doesn't. That's a musical. wink

I've never been to the ballet, but I have been to the opera.  Don't really like either much, but would be willing to attend them for the sake of being a society asshole, provided I had the money and connections, which I currently do not.
