Four more demos:
Renegade Ops (PS3)
-An objective-based, vehicular twin stick shooter with cheesy comic book cutscenes, Renegade Ops is somewhat entertaining, if nothing special.
Red Johnson's Chronicles (PS3)
-This one's a very European point and click adventure game about a P.I. solving crimes. The story in the demo isn't very interesting, and the point and click mechanics become grating as you try to find that one thing you missed before the game will let you move on.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 (PS3)
-Yup, it's soccer. Why does this demo have no commentary while the below one does? The file size difference between the two is only 100 MB, and a sports demo without commentary isn't terribly interesting.
FIFA 12 (PS3)
-Yup, it's soccer. Some interesting defense options were apparently added to this version, and the game does make a good effort at teaching you how to use them.

I tried the Ace Combat: Assault Horizons (PS3) demo tonight and, you know what? I really liked it. I'm usually bored to tears by Ace Combat games, but this one is actually both fun and intense. Give it a shot.

over 3 months in AZ,, and i haven't even given a thought to hooking up a game console.. i really think this is the end for me.
especially now that the 8-month long outdooor-activity comfy season is starting.

I guess I wasn't too far off the mark when I suggested that Assault Horizon was a Modern Warfare-ization of the franchise. The red halo indicating damage, automatic healing over time, and predetermined, excessively in-your-face set pieces all remind me of Modern Warfare. I half-expected the player character to land on and hijack an enemy jet at the end of the demo.
Normally I object to this sort of contrivance, but any change to the stale Ace Combat formula is welcome.

Four more demos:
Burnout Crash! (PS3)
-An action/puzzle game where you have to set off chain reactions by exploding a vehicle in an intersection, this one isn't much fun and the Crazy Taxi style announcer doesn't help.
NBA 2K12 (PS3)
-No difficulty options in the demo make this tough for regular folks to get into, but it seems ok.
Radiant Silvergun (360)
-After waiting 14 years to finally try this game, I'm a little underwhelmed. It's kind of fun, but the demo is so short that you barely even get a feel for it.
Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection (360)
-This collection doesn't do much other than prove just how poorly the old MK games hold up.

Once you play RS a lot, its brilliance becomes apparent. Unfortunately reading a review it seems that all six weapons are separate -- I almost wonder if part of the....charm?....of the game is the three button scheme, as the three of the weapons being combos of the other three is much clearer when you actually have to push two buttons at once....
Plus level one probably IS the most boring level, so....

Oh, I certainly believe that I would benefit from a longer play experience. I don't know why Treasure made the demo so short (it's actually a piece of level 2 I think). The weapons are all mapped to different buttons, but the control map showed that you could do combinations of some of the buttons as well.

Tried two more games:
3D Pixel Racing (Wii)
-Take the graphics form 3D Dot Game Heroes and make a bad motion controlled racing game and this is what you get. Even though it's not a good game, I have to say that I enjoyed the demo and the auto power sliding was kind of fun once I got the hang of it. On the other hand, the game is super strict about forcing you to stay on the course (no shortcuts for you!) and that takes a lot of the fun out of it.
Wizorb (360)
-A mix of JRPG and Arkanoid/Breakout, this is pretty damn awesome. It's $3, so just buy it. Trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUh09N-EzoM

Two more demos:
Rochard (PS3)
-A decent puzzle/platformer with very high quality voice acting and decent gravity manipulation gameplay.
Mercury Hg (PS3)
-Mediocre to poor puzzler in the vein of Super Monkey Ball and other "tilt the world" puzzle games.
By XLord007 (Oct 05, 2011) (#785)
Tried out Eufloria (PS3) tonight. It's a simple RTS where you grow trees on asteroids and try to take control of all of the asteroids on the screen. It's decent, but not terribly interesting.
By Amazingu (Oct 05, 2011) (#786)
I tried the demo of Rochard too, and the voice acting for Rochard is great, but the British chick kinda got on my nerves. Gameplay is fun, but not enough for me to actually buy the game.
I also downloaded Costume Quest, which is free for PSN+ members right now, and I'm really liking it. It's got kind of an Earthbound vibe to it, and it's quite funny.
Other than that, Borderlands, which started out fun, but is slowly getting on my nerves with monotonous environments and way too much going back and forth.

Haven't posted in this thread in a while. I'm currently playing Castlevania Harmony of Despair and Dead Island on PS3. They're great games and both are insanely addicting. I easily have 25+ hours into each of them. It's funny how I'll go through phases of not playing any games for weeks and then I'll be addicted to several games at once.

Tried the demo for Horizon Riders (Wii) tonight. Looks and plays like a bad PC game from the mid 90s. Stay away.

Devil May Cry. mmm.

Lately I've dove into FFXIII, Gears of War, and Uncharted, all at once and for the first time. I've put the most time into Gears so far, since my setup lets me connect either my 360 or PS3 but not both, and the 360 has benefitted recently with Radiant Silvergun's recent release.
I'm mostly enjoying Gears, but occasionally I have a hell of time getting my guy to actually take cover when I want him to - twice I've tried to take cover behind a narrow surface (like, say, a pillar) only to see my dive into open space like an idiot and get himself shot. Also the AI of my partner is the pits. He's caught more than one rocket with his head standing up inexplicably and his strategy of staring down the Berserker was somewhat less than effective (as a sidenote, said Berserker encounter was very bad for the heart). But it's very well-crafted, and I'm looking forward to seeing what else they thow out there. Also, Baird is a hoot. Currently working through a dark house at night while some snarky guy tries manning the lights and guiding me though. An ambush turned bad very quickly.
FFXIII is as yet completely opaque. The cutscenes so far are all about immediate action rather than exposition and only the menu's glossary of history and terms give me a working background on what's going on. Current on Chapter 2 - red-haired girl just found a fishing rod.
Uncharted has a certain matinee charm about it, but I haven't tried enough actual combat yet to get the feel of it down. The pirate skirmish at the game's outset was very ugly indeed. Just left the stranded sub to bad news, very early on.

Even though I haven't watched the Max Payne 3 trailer yet, hearing about it made me remember that I still needed to play the second one, so I'm working on that now. I wasn't too crazy about it at first, but I'm starting to warm up to it now.

Dark Souls. it's crazy, creepy and i can't stop playing.

Kings Quest 2!! Does Sierra mean anything to you? Roger Wilco? Leisure Suit Larry? Quest for Glory? Check out AGD Interactive on the web, they have remakes of Kings Quest 1, 2 and Quest for Glory 2 free for download! They also have their own adventure game for download for $10.
Kings Quest 1 was a little rinky-dink, but 2 is quite entertaining so far. Definitely good for an adventure game fix!

f--- yeah, Quest for Glory. Checking it out now.
EDIT: Was talking about point and click games at work with some of my dudes. Is anyone else really surprised that this genre hasn't seen a resurgence of any kind given that the Wii seems tailor made for it?

Dear Chtulhu/Odin/Orwhatevergodsomeoneworships,
Please include original version of Larry also in the HD version, either as separate bonus or like with Secret of the Monkey Island Special Edition where you can switch between old and new with one button.

I'd argue that Telltale has brought the genre back with its recent Monkey Island, Strongbad, Wallace & Gromit, and Back to the Future titles. And now they're working on something to do with Jurassic Park.

Finished Max Payne 2 tonight. Gameplay is on the weaker side of the spectrum, but the story kept me going, and I enjoyed it overall. I also watched the trailer for the third one which I'm not quite feeling. They may have the classic music in there, but there's way too many colors for a Max Payne game. Guess I'll have to play Alan Wake instead.

Hmm, Telltale, I didn't know about that... looks interesting!
