Contra 4 Original Soundtrack

By Mak (Jan 6 '08, 20:25) (#26)

At this weekend's MAGfest in Virginia, Virt and his band, the Smash Bros., played Stage 4 Harbor live with his band, the Smash Bros., as their opening song, it was awesome. Hopefully there will be a recording or video released eventually.

Thanks for the Contra 4 rip.

Angela please can you reupload the Contra 4 soundtrack to a diferent uploader? I have trouble with megaupload. May I suggest www.mediafire.com?

Thanks for the Contra 4 Jungle theme on Hard Mode. I loved it.
Thanks again

Hey Angela, can you do the MGS2 soundtrack sometime in 2008? I'd be forever indentured to you for it.
: )

Indeed, the Smash Bros. show at MAGFest was excellent, and the DoD Contra IV arrangement was great too. I'm glad that Jake is getting so much attention for his work. His past soundtracks were awesome too, but now that he's done a really big name title that's a great game to boot (because, well, most people don't want to play Rugrats and M&M games, hehe), he had people bugging him all weekend for autographs. :)

Also: BACON :P

Many thanks for the recordings. smile

Just a heads up incase no one has heard yet

Contra Dual Spirits (Contra 4 in Japan) has an official soundtrack cd announced

Sadly, it is only available for preorders within Japan on Konami's internet shop, and will go out of print after a short period of time

Info here

Might be old news, just thought i'd post incase someone missed it

Awesome, thanks for pointing this out.  VGM World usually gets Konami Style stuff, so we should be able to get it from Kahori.

just hoping for a better cover.

i dont like that generic look of the japanese one. thats rare~

I was just talking to Tomm Hulett, the producer of Contra 4, about this soundtrack release.

It is only going to be available with preorders of the game; it will not be available separate on Konamistyle. So likely, Kahori will not have it (I hope I am wrong, but it's not looking that way).

The only way to get it is to preorder the game somewhere. Tomm told me he is doing that himself, so if the producer of the game has to preorder his own copy, well...

He also told me something about the tracklisting that is sure to please, but he made me promise that I couldn't tell. smile

Maybe I'm alone, but C4's OST didn't impress me.  It was okay in terms of composition, but it didn't bring the rawk needed for Contra.  Everytime I play I game, I listen to something with some actual kick. Granted were talking about the DS in terms of sound capabilities, but AY, virt is not.

A Japanese-only soundtrack for an American developed and composed game? Oh, okay...

Ninety Nine Nights had a Western composer, abysmal sales and still got a soundtrack in Japan (only).
I think ignoring game pack-ins like premium boxes the likelyhood of any game (regardless of developer or composer) getting a soundtrack release is by far the highest in Japan (there are plenty releases of "oversea" game soundtracks there since some time).

Takayuki Nakamura "helped out" on that album, too, although I use that term rather loosely. tongue

Prince of Persia Sands of Time and Warrior Within could fall under that category, too. I'm not sure if that branch of Ubisoft is US or Canada-based, but it's a similar situation.

Well, that's too bad.  I guess I'll have to think about how badly I want it.

Don't know if anyone saw this:

Soundtrack CD included with Japanese pre-orders.  smile

Read the thread dude.

Haha, wow.  I'd been following this thread (with previous posts even).  I guess I got a little behind.

Kahori has opened preorders for Contra 4 + OST. I got my order in! :D

So, has anyone had a chance to listen to the soundtrack CD?  Any opinions?  Was it remastered in anyway?  How is that new arrangement of "Harbor"?  Same as the one from MAGfest?

By Vaeran (Mar 23 '08, 11:52) (#46)

I received mine in the mail yesterday. I don't hear any difference in sound quality between this disc and the gamerip, which is a good thing. And the Harbor arrangement is SWEET. I haven't heard the MAGfest version you're talking about, but if that was also The Smash Bros, then I don't see any reason why they'd be significantly different. It's not a live recording, though.

Wait, the shooter queen didn't order this? Not to be a jackass but I figured you'd jump on ordering this because of the soundtrack.

My rep precedes me, I guess.  But like I said in another thread (this one, actually), unless they added anything substantial to either game or soundtrack, then I would pass.

Nothing new was added to the game, apparently.  Now, if they really DID remaster the soundtrack, then that's something I'd most certainly need to look into.....

It's still nice to have as Jake's first album.  There's a nice bio both in English and Japanese about him.  It will be great to have him sign it.

My impressions of the album just went live:

So, more than a year later... is this available anywhere? And just how is the quality, remastered or not?
