Mario Galaxy Interview: Kondo and Yokota

So, here it is.  We got an interview with Koji Kondo and Mahito Yokota.  While some of the responses are quite brief, it was still interesting to hear their thoughts.

And yes, I asked about soundtrack releases for SMG and Zelda: TP.  Kondo didn't respond to the question, and Yokota side-stepped it pretty well.  I tried!  What can I say?

Great stuff. It astounds me that Iwata-san despite his marketing credentials has still not seized the opportunity and potential profits of video game soundtracks. The customers are there but the products are nowhere to be seen.

Why do we have to wait sooo much longer for the GOOD games to come out?

There was an interview somebody posted here with Kenji Yamamoto, who wrote music for the Metroid Prime series.    He said that Nintendo is in the business of making games, so the music is to support the game.  The composers don't normally schedule time to have their music cut into albums.

Yeah, I did that interview.  I figure if I ask enough people enough times, maybe they'll cave in?  wink

I am sure that Nintendo have people who can quite easily do the monkey work to take the music from a game and slap it on a cd. All that's then left to do is put some game artwork on the front and back covers and it's done. No need for the composers to get involved. We are hardly asking for another F-Zero X Guitar Arrange cd (although that would be nice....). Oh well:)

At least they said they would be considering the possibility, so there's hope.

C'mon, this is one of Kondo's most ambitious projects yet (alongside TWILIGHT PRINCESS)--these two are literally crying for soundtrack album treatment.

When the inevitable F-Zero game is released for Wii, I for one DO NOT want SEGA to be doing the music. Taro Bando should take the Wii F-Zero soundtrack, THAT would be screaming out for a release. I guarantee that a SSBB soundtrack will be released (mid to late '08, I hope). It should be pretty amazing considering the big name composers working on the game.

Looks like some of the Mario Galaxy music is going to be released on CD:

Of course, it's a Club Nintendo release, so that means it will be limited. But here's hoping!

The swank SFC controller is a nice bonus...the bonus being Nintendo sticking its finger up our Western asses for not being able to get this awesome stuff.
