VGMTrans, so some tracks (the first two most notably) may sound a bit off. Still, Hitoshi Sakimoto!

Use XMPlay+xmp-midi (www.un4seen.com) to play. All songs loop properly this way.

Some really tasty tidbits here.

This is great! It's like they made FFXII on the SNES big_smile

Field1 sounds 90% Gradius in this version.

Wow, I had no idea the game was out.
*runs over to the usual place*

For some reason I couldn't get any sound from XMPlay with that midi plugin.

Only thing I can think of is that you'd extract only the midi files (without the SF2 ones, there's no samples, so no music would play).

Well, I extracted the whole rar. Probably should rtfm again, if it would help me a bit.

I couldn't get them to work with XMPlay, either, but I did take a listen to the midis. Completely recycled stuff tongue

You have to rename all the .sf2 files so that they're the same filename as the midis.

That said, this is a major disappointment. It's pretty much all FFXII rehash, but with inferior sound quality. There are a few original tracks in there but they're nothing special (aside from the Staff Roll, which is worth hearing).

Or tick 'Check for a partial match' in the MIDI plugin config dialog. smile

If there are gaps in the number sequence (such as there is not a 13-Battle 3) does that mean that the track was not ripped properly or detected correctly - or does that mean that they removed the track completely from the game for whatever reason?

Blessings,
~Andy

They aren't in the rom, most likely were deleted sometime during the developement phase.

I may have to find this from somewhere, since the music is FANTASTIC. Whatever did they manage to do to the FFXII OST?

Game is excellent as well. This one came totally out of the left field. It actually manages to be worthy of the Final Fantasy name!

The music is great if you like a downgraded version of the FFXII OST. DS synth is nothing to write home about.

Yet it sounds better than the PS2/OST versions. Have you played the game?

Well, I've now been listening to a rip by "Razikain" (Is that you, Razakin?), and I'm afraid it's noticeably inferior to the actual ingame music. Some tracks fare better than other, such as "Abandoning Power", while tracks like "Esper Battle" sound somewhat close put with some missing effects, possibly reverb and others, on some samples like the chorus. I don't know exactly what this VGMTrans is, but I would say Revenant Wings would be worthy of a direct recording instead of emulated sound.

On that note, it would be great to have a rip with track names referencing the fantastic events and locales in Revenant Wings instead of the original names from FFXII.
