Art of Fighting Arrange Sound Trax

By XISMZERO (Jan 10, 2006)

Recently was browsing Jodo Kast's very helpful game music images page and was looking through the SNK section and came across the Art of Fighting Arrange Sound Trax. This one's unusual... there's some drama and then (surprisingly) some funky jazzy arranges of the game's music. I went ahead and gave it a listen and I noticed some notable instrumentalists (Osamu Koike, Jun Kajiwara, Akira Jimbo).

Music's not all that bad as there are some impressive jazz solos in there which is pretty rare for something SNK (Arashi no Saxophone doesn't count). Typically, my reflection on the SNK Sound Team Shinsekai Gakkyoku Zatsugidan isn't very high as I believe most of their arrangements don't groove as well as other game company's sound teams. Ah well, most of the good stuff is arranged by a Ken Morimura...

Fans of jazzy game music ought to look into this one someway or another.

I haven't heard that album but the Art of Fighting 2 Image Album is an excellent arranged album, imho. Robert's theme in particular is a really swingin' jazzy tune with some impressive sax playing. I highly recommend it... of course my copy's a bootleg so what do I know ;P

I preferred Art of Fighting 2's AST...

AoF3's music never did a thing for me. Just seemed to lack the character of previous SNK games/arranged albums. Much like what happened to the World Heroes soundtracks as more games came out. AoF2 was much more well-rounded, despite a handful of clunkers.

Why not? The Arashi no Saxophone entries were some of the highlights of the whole KOF series.
