BASTARDS

By csK (Dec 21, 2005)

Well, I haven't heard of GoW's soundtrack, though I'm very disappointed that SotC didn't make it. Still, from GS's page, rather then, y'know, offering you the chance to hear some of the music, they give you thier reason: that the game score sounds like a movie. So apparently, a game has to sound like a movie to win the accolades... oooookay.

By csK (Dec 21, 2005)

By the way...

Watching this reminds me why I dislike GS... the reviewers don't seem to have ANY enthusiasm! They sound like they'd be right in place... at a funeral.

By M (Dec 21, 2005)

Just wait until you see the Dubious Honors. Then you get to see them make asses out of themselves and not be funny at the same time!

By Jay (Dec 22, 2005)

Meh...

Just personal opinion. These always are. It doesn't really matter. And, just because I don't agree with it doesn't make it wrong.

I actually wouldn't have given it to SotC either because of the dodgy cuts in-game. You can blame that on the programming but, when it comes to the listening experience in-game, it sounds off. More and more I'm finding it difficult to separate music and game, and I'm becoming less sure that I should. All part of one experience.

Personal opinions that become others', as well

>Just personal opinion. These always are. It doesn't really matter. And, just because I don't agree with it doesn't make it wrong.

But these personal opinions are published in a high-profile online publication with hundreds of thousands of readers. They do influence. They set a "standard". And what is troublesome that these opinions time and time again express condescence towards real game music: the "bleeps and blops" and even modern game music.

Most often, indeed, they look up in admiration at film scores and dull, technical orchestrations without any real spirit, while ignoring the achievements of their own media, and the particular characteristics of game music. How boring would games and game music be if there was nothing but film score imitations in games?

By Jay (Dec 22, 2005)

I completely agree...

I totally agree with this. But it's still just my personal opinion and doesn't make it any more right than those who believe that game music should reach the standard that film has reached through a century of experiments and honing the methods. There's no right or wrong here - just opinion. If people choose to embrace their point of view, that's up to them.

Sure, argue the point but I wouldn't let these sort of things bother you as much as they seem to bother some. Just not worth it.

GOW is overrated.

SOTC isn't perfect, but GOW is just... eh. Hack and slash with some mini-games entwined within the basic gameplay. I'll take any of the POPs over God of War anyday.

By Carl (Dec 22, 2005)

I made a real vote when buying the Colossus cd.

Sales means more than awards..

And I suspect more people have bought the Colossus album than a God of War OST (if there was one?).

By Zane (Dec 22, 2005)

Legal download.

When you purchase the game there's a download "code" that allows you to go on the GOW site and download the entire album for free. Or you could just see my post down hither.

If it means anything...

I haven't seen any compelling reason to sit down with either game.

I do notice the God of War commercials starting up again.

Oh well, at least GTA on PSP didn't make off with the gold, like I figured it would.

Game of the Year: Ys VI
Runner-Up: Atelier Iris
Honorable Mention: Street Fighter Anniversary (Xbox) (came out last year for PS2, but this year's Xbox version has online)

Oh nevermind...It's for the music...

In that case:

Soundtrack of the Year: Ys Oath of Felghana
Runner Up: Enthusia Racing
Honorable Mention: Ys VI (released last year, but the game was out this year in the US)

Yeah, there's probably more I would need to award (arranged albums, doujins, worst, sleeper, most surprising), but that about sums up the year.

Kids and Christmas...typical

>That's because you're a fucking moron!

-Careful...Your mommy might not get you any games for Christmas if you keep using that type of language, kid.

She might even lock away his videogame systems. Mine used to do that when I was being bad. :|

I don't care either way.

Neither of those games were titles I cared the least bit about in any event.

Why not?

By Idolores (Dec 22, 2005)

>Why not?

Didn't like them as much as I thought I would. I thought they were very average.

But to be fair, SotC had a very good premise.

The `woman giving the reason for GoW winning is the best:

"It SOUNDS like a professional MOVIE soundtrack."

Like, WOW!

What makes the comment even more interesting is that GoW sounds cinematic, but it doesn't do it very well. The music sounds amazingly out of place in the game and even overbearing.

But yeah, I agree that the Gamespot video presentations are pretty sad. Everyone looks either bored or stoned.

By Idolores (Dec 23, 2005)

Stoned because they're bored?
