History Repeats Itself - Abandoner/Lost Child

By Vaeran (Nov 12, 2005)

After having bought and thoroughly enjoyed the two Lost Child albums, I went ahead and got this one from Cocoebiz hoping for more of the same. Well, I was wrong on that count, but even so it's not a bad little CD. The first half (Abandoner) is definitely the more enjoyable for me: it's all chilly and moody and lonely. Very nice to go out walking at night with.

It's actually once we get to the Lost Child tracks that I start to lose some interest -- this doesn't sound anything like S.S.H.'s work on Sides A/B/X, and I suspect he wasn't involved with the music on this album, especially since he isn't mentioned in the (very sparse and hard to read) liner notes. Anyone have any info on the composer(s)? And further, can anyone tell me about these games and how they're related to each other, if at all? They're all grouped under "Project Repeated Scene", so are they actually a proper series, or just individual titles from the same developers?

Great CD.

I heard the samples over at VGMWorld, so I knew what I was in for before I picked it up. It's like a moody Silent Hill Light album or something, but it's still pretty cool. I also enjoy Abandoner more than the Lost Child stuff.

I have no idea what's up with the games, or how they're related - all I know is that the CD is pretty damn sweet.

This is a sweet disc! Silent Hill Light is right.

Can't get track 1 out of my head.

It's just so...melodic. And yet oddly haunting, in that your-Wind-Song-stays-on-my-mind sort of way...

I second that

Definitely a moody listen, very similar to Silent Hill. The composer is ''kt2'' and he's done some other stuff that I have, all with a similar dark/moody style [No Reality and tama-soft artist collection volume 3]. Tracks 1, 2, and 5 on History Repeats Itself are my favorites. Track 1 especially for the thunderstorm and beautiful piano combination, just amazing. There's also an actual Abandoner soundtrack that came bundled with the game and it's got lots of music not on History, I highly recommend that one as well [hint: VGM Central].

not only is KT2 a composer, he collects vgm too

KT2 is a really nice guy, who collects vgm albums too, as well as being a composer.

He's been on peer-to-peer networks sharing vgm albums (including his own) and enjoys listening to a lot of old Arcade cds.

As miker mentioned, you can find more of his compositions by downloading "Tama-Soft Collection Vol.3" and the "Abandoner ~The Severed Dreams~ Limited Edition Privilage CD"

Influence

Did he ever mention Akira Yamaoka as being an influence? I think it's obvious. He does a great job with trip-hop/jazz even if I believe he underdevelops his promising compositions. I think "Deeds Not Words" is his most emotional piece and "No Answer Is Also An Answer" follows as something of a trippy Silent Hill-esque down-dumps bar-style jazz piece.
